Overview

Dr. Alberto Forteza Gil is a renowned cardiovascular surgeon, recognized as the most expert surgeon in Spain in aortic valve repair. Licensed in Medicine from the University of Salamanca, where he also completed music studies, he obtained his Ph.D. cum laude with a thesis on coronary surgery without cardiopulmonary bypass.Between 2015 and 2024, he led the Cardiac Surgery Service at Puerta de Hierro University Hospital. Under his leadership, the hospital achieved 1,000 heart transplants, becoming the first center in Spain to do so. He also implemented innovations such as the first heart transplant with an ex vivo perfusion system and the first transplant from a donor in controlled circulatory death.
